Class Descriptions:
Kinderdance:
(45 minutes) For ages 2- 3 who just can’t stop dancin’. Children will learn basic coordination exercises geared toward improving fine and gross motor skills, ballet movement, and social / interpersonal interaction for the dance classroom. Creativity is encouraged! This is a great class for children who are preparing to enter preschool, as social skills and learning in a class setting are introduced for the first time!
Combo Classes:
In a combo class, the young student is exposed to two different forms of dance. We offer combo classes in foundational ballet combined with high energy jazz for ages 4 through 7.
Jazz:
Jazz dance develops strong, proper body alignment and strength needed to improve turning technique and to jump more efficiently while learning flashy combinations. This class will increase a student's vocabulary by introducing a variety of across the floor progressions of turns, kicks, jumps and more in each class. Advanced level Jazz Classes in our studio has more of a commercial and contemporary jazz style combining technique with a stronger emphasis on performance level.
West Coast Video Jazz:
Video is only offered to dancers ages 13 and up. Video uses movements that are native to hip hop while maintaining its integrity as a technical dance form by blending jazz, giving it the contemporary "music video" look. Students should be able to be versatile in class and must have a strong jazz background as well as Hip Hop to perform in class, therefore students are required to take a ballet technique class to attend.
Contemporary:
Often referred to as lyrical, contemporary combines techniques from ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop. Students learn to connect with their own inner emotions and feelings to portray a story through movement alone.
Hip Hop:
One of today’s most popular dance styles, hip hop is danced to urban themed music such as rap or R&B. Students learn how to become grounded in their movement and isolate sections of their body.
Ballet:
This is a class where students will focus on vocabulary, technique, stretching, barre, body placement, across the floor, turns, leaps and more. Ballet is the foundation to all dance and is highly encouraged as a foundation to any classes taken. Many of our leveled courses, such as intermediate or advanced jazz or contemporary, have a ballet prerequisite.
Tumbling:
Tumbling is an acrobatic discipline where students learn a variety of skills including walkovers, handsprings, aerials, flips, and more. Additional focus is also placed on core strengthening exercises as well as increased flexibility training.
Adrenaline Dance Program:
ADP is a student dance company for kids ages 8 through 18 who compete at various competitions in Maine and throughout New England as well as perform at local events in the greater Portland area. These students are highly dedicated dancers who train in Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, and Hip Hop, beyond the normal recreational level and have chosen to make dance their primary extra curricular activity.
